Kansas City Chiefs and Rising Rookie Star Rout the Houston Texans in Week One Opener

The Kansas City Chiefs made a very promising start to the 2020-2021 season with a crushing 34-20 win over the Houston Texans.  The Chiefs came out firing in the first half and quarterback Patrick Mahomes would nothing shy of spectacular.

The Chiefs came off of a hot 2019-2020 season, where they procured a Super Bowl win against the San Francisco Forty-Niners and had a record of 12-4 winning the AFC West. The Chiefs will look to replicate their unparalleled offensive performance led by their MVP quarterback and pro bowl receiving group.

Aided by star players on offense such as Tight End Travis Kelce, and Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill. Two players that have both proven to be some of the best talents at their respective positions. The Chiefs again will be one of the toughest teams in the league to beat.

But when it comes down to it, three players do not win a Super Bowl. The Chiefs are favored by many to return to the Super Bowl again this season. Luckily for the Chiefs, this offseason they acquired key players on top of an already talented team, which couold help them repeat another Super Bowl win.

In their first game back, the Chiefs started a rookie running back named Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Edwards-Helaire was the thirty-second pick out of LSU for the Chiefs this past draft.

Although this rising star was picked in the first round, he was passed up by every team besides the Chiefs. A list of a few Running Backs that were drafted over Edwards-Helaire is Jonathan Taylor, J.K Dobbins, and D’Andre Swift. Out of these 3 backs, Edwards-Helaire showed the most promise for the upcoming season in his debut. In contrast, rookie running back D’Andre Swift dropped a would-be touchdown catch that would have won the game for the Lions in Week One against the Bears.

At LSU, Clyde was a standout star and in his first NFL game is already an eye catcher for many teams despite his draft stock. At approximately 5’7 and weighing in at 207 lbs, he has proven he is not only able to play with the big dogs in the league, but that he has the potential to be a star.

Edwards-Helaire ended his debut with an outstanding 138 yards on 25 carries. On one of these carries, he took a 27-yard run all the way to the house. Throughout his debut, he continuously showed his ability to shift directions with ease, break tackles, and find the open field. These are all major components that make a star running back in the NFL.

As the season progresses, the sky’s the limit in regards to this young running back’s potential and all eyes will be on him as he exhibits why the Chiefs drafted him.
